A very tasty appetizer made from the fillet of blue fin tuna, found in the sea region of the Northern Sporades!
The famous Blue Fin Tuna is found swimming in the sea of the Northern Sporades, there where the island of Alonissos lies. Fishing boats go out to sea from November till February and by the method of trolling or tow-line fishing, fishermen catch their tuna. They then take it all to the workshops on the island, where the women of Alonissos carefully clean the fish. The tuna is then boiled lightly and preserved in sterilized glass jars with no other preservative, other than sea salt.  Blue fin tuna is said to be of the largest fish to swim the seas. It can reach up to two meters in length and it is also considered to be of the highest quality. Moreover, it is believed to be one of the most nutritious fish worldwide. Consequently, it can be said that it is a basic element to be included in a healthy and balanced diet. Enjoy it as a tasty appetizer to accompany your ouzo, make tuna salads using green leafy vegetables or pulses. Otherwise, just add it along with olives and capers to pasta sauces.
